District Leadership Plan
District 9690 has adopted a District Leadership Plan with the approval of the General Secretary of RI. Adoption of a District Leadership Plan is encouraged by the Board of RI in order to relieve the Governor of some of his/her administrative responsibilities and enable the Governor to concentrate more on planning and motivation. It is considered that adoption of the District Leadership Plan will:
Catherine Noyer-Riveau, RI Director
Rotarians Make a Difference. International Assembly
- improve communication at all levels in the district
- provide faster and better support for clubs
- provide a pool of well trained leaders with the ability to serve as governor
- give younger, working Rotarians a better opportunity to seek the office of governor provide better supervision of committees and liaison with the governor.
The plan provides for the appointment of Assistant Governors (AGs) and changes the nature of the official visit by the Governor. The administrative parts of the visit will be undertaken by the AGs and the Governor may now make the official visit at any time during the year suitable to the club which will provide the maximum benefit. The Governor's visit will be for the purpose of:
- focusing attention on important Rotary Issues
- motivating Rotarians
- providing any special assistance needed by clubs
- personally recognising outstanding contributions of Rotarians
The plan provides for 9 AGs and each Assistant is responsible for 4 to 5 clubs which he/she will visit in the first 12 weeks of the Rotary year to meet with each club's officers and directors an discuss the club's plans and objectives. The AGs will monitor each club's progress and act as liaison with the Governor. The AGs are not officers of RI but are appointed by the Governor.
Although the AGs will often be the first point of contact of club offices and directors, the Governor remains available to counsel all Rotarians in the district.
